Brick by Brick: Building Connection with Parts using LEGO®Serious Play® and Internal Family Systems

I have an awesome training coming up! Me and my colleague Margaret L. Conley will be putting our IFS and LEGO® Serious Play® skills together to bring you this awesome training!

“All Parts are Welcome” is a common statement you will hear from Internal Family Systems (IFS) practitioners, therapists, and clients, but what happens when all parts are not easily welcome? What happens when all parts of the client are not easily welcome? When facing these challenges, it is important to spend time exploring the parts of the internal system. This creative experiential workshop incorporates IFS, LEGO® Serious Play®, and play therapy to explore the internal system.

Learning Objectives

  • Experience the LEGO® Serious Play® process in play therapy through active involvement in model building and sharing.

  • List the key therapeutic powers of play as the foundation for play therapy.

  • Discuss the basic concepts of parts that work within the IFS model.

  • Explore the connection between IFS, LEGO® Serious Play®, and play therapy.

  • Demonstrate 3 brick building play therapy interventions to introduce parts work to child and adult clients.

  • Demonstrate multiple brick-building play therapy interventions to explore the internal system and increase communication within the play therapy setting.
